Friend of the Bumbling Blog, @SomeDuncan ,supplied me with this birds-eye photo of the upcoming Ribfest in Riverside Park, August 9 - 11. Look below the train bridge to see the large BBQ display kiosks. I’m hoping to snoop around before 11am Saturday morning and snap some menu pics (to be uploaded after work Sat evening).
Kamloops Ribfest 2013, presented by Interior Savings and Daybreak Rotary, will be roaring into town on August 9 - 11. Starting at 11am - 9pm on these three hallowed days, watch in awe as smoke rises from culinary altars to please the nostrils of the Meat Gods.
I attended last year and found a wide range of pricing. Here’s a link to the 2012 menus (prices may differ this year): http://kamloopsbumbling.tumblr.com/post/29159493622/kamloops-rotary-ribfest-2012-here-are-a-few
Watch for Kamloops and area food vendors also selling tasty foods in Riverside Park during the Ribfest. Last year for example, Donut King was in attendance with “Vietnamese Sandwiches”. Need I say more?
Okay, one more thing. May I suggest taking a page from TV food host John Catucci? Bring your own re-usable cutlery. People will think you are cool. Trust me.

Free Lawn Bowling Lessons - Riverside Park
I recently came across an event listing in the Kamloops Daily News for free lawn bowling lessons courtesy the Kamloops Riverside Lawn Bowling Club. Call Laurel at 250-554-5177 or Bob at 250-377-4026
The bowling greens at Riverside Park have been in use since 1923. Even if you don’t take advantage of the free lessons, I recommend taking a stroll down to the park - walk toward the river on 2nd or 3rd Ave until the park’s entrances are reached. The bowling green is historically interesting as well as beautiful (more to see than what’s in the photo above). Find it located beside Heritage House. A map of Riverside Park can be downloaded in pdf format here.

The top photo of the Riverside Park bowling green is my own, below is an illustration from “The Game of Lawn Bowls” from the Spalding’s Athletic Series (1895) and underneath that is a detail of the front book cover for “The Game of Bowling on the Green or Lawn Bowls” ed. James W. Grieg (1904)
Kamloops 200 Year Celebration
Here are some pics I snapped at the Kamloops bicentennial bash on August 25th 2012. Photo on left features the City of Kamloops mayor and Tk’emlúps chief with their respective councils arriving from the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc lands to Riverside park by canoe. In centre are Chief Gottfriedson and Mayor Milobar after exiting the canoes. At right are City of Kamloops councillors Nancy Bepple and Arjun Singh in fur trader costume.

Above is a link to Sheila Webster’s photograph of the classic water skiing pyramid at a 1967 competition held in Riverside Park, Kamloops. It is contained within her and partner Keith’s We-Love-Kamloops blog, and is one of many photographs of various locales in and around this beauteous City.
On the subject of aquatic acrobatics, a pyramid formation is also featured in this undated Youtube clip uploaded by CreakyRowBoat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DwmOLcEgL0&feature=related
These colourful pastries immediately caught my hungry eye at the Can-Ital Ladies food pavilion in Riverside Park during Kamloops’ Canada Day festivities. It is a cake with a custard filling formed and tinted to look like a sugared peach. Delectable and quite reasonably priced at $2 each.
